Dr. Koirala is a distinguished medical professional who earned his MBBS degree from Kathmandu Medical College, graduating as a Gold Medalist, and completed his residency training at the University of Santo Tomas Hospital, Manila, Philippines. He further specialized by completing a Fellowship in Body Interventional Radiology (FBIR) at Siriraj Hospital under Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand. He has also received advanced international training as a Visiting Scholar at Asan Medical Center in Seoul, Korea, and at the San-Yat Sen Cancer Institute and Yunan Cancer Center in China. With over five years of experience in oncologic imaging and interventional radiology/oncology, Dr. Koirala currently serves as the General Secretary of the Nepalese Society of Vascular and Interventional Radiology and is the Program Director of the Interventional Oncology Unit at Nepal Cancer Hospital and Research Center. He has previously worked as a Lecturer and Interventional Radiologist at Patan Academy of Health Sciences. Dr. Koirala has been instrumental in establishing interventional oncology as the fourth pillar of cancer care in Nepal, credited for introducing Microwave Ablation and initiating the first Interventional Oncology outpatient clinic in the country. He has actively participated in and delivered numerous presentations at both national and international oncology and interventional radiology conferences. His academic excellence has been recognized through multiple prestigious awards, including the Chairman Dr. Pushkar N. Pant Gold Medal for securing the first position in the final MBBS examination, the Prof. Loke Bikram Thapa Gold Medal for Surgery, the Prof. Dr. Damber B. Karki Gold Medal for Medicine, and the Prof. Dr. June Thapa Gold Medal for Obstetrics and Gynecology. He has contributed significantly to medical literature with several articles published in indexed journals. Dr. Koirala holds professional memberships in the Nepal Medical Association (NMA), Nepal Radiologists Association (NRA), Nepalese Society of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, Asia-Pacific Society of Interventional Radiology, and Asia-Oceania Society of Radiology.
