Dr. Prabhat Chandra Thakur is a highly accomplished Head & Neck Oncologist, currently serving as Consultant and Unit Chief of Head & Neck Oncology at Nepal Cancer Hospital & Research Center (since 2017). He completed his MBBS from BPKIHS, Dharan and earned his M.S. in Otorhinolaryngology from the prestigious PGI, Chandigarh, India. He further specialized by completing a Fellowship in Head & Neck Oncology from IFHNOS (International Federation of Head & Neck Oncology Societies), of which he is also a fellow member. Additionally, he pursued a Fellowship in Minimal Invasive Thyroid Surgery (Scarless Endoscopic) from Bangkok, Thailand, bringing advanced surgical expertise to Nepal. Dr. Thakur has extensive professional experience, having served for three years as Consultant in Head & Neck Oncology at B.P. Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital (BPKMCH) and later as Unit Chief of Head & Neck Oncology at Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital, where he was instrumental in establishing the Head & Neck Oncology Unit. With a surgical career marked by excellence, he has performed over 5,000 major head and neck cancer surgeries with reconstruction and is recognized as the pioneer of Scarless Minimal Invasive Thyroid Surgery (Endoscopic Thyroidectomy) in Nepal, a procedure available at only a few centers worldwide. His special interest lies in oral and thyroid cancers and in reconstructive surgery for head and neck cancer patients. In addition to his clinical contributions, Dr. Thakur has published numerous articles in indexed journals, reflecting his commitment to advancing academic and clinical research in oncology. He is also actively involved in professional organizations, holding lifetime memberships in the Society of Otolaryngology of Nepal (SOL) and the Foundation of Head & Neck Oncology (FHNO). He is an active member of the Asia Pacific Thyroid Society (APTS), a designate member abroad of the Bangladesh Oral Cancer Society, and serves on the Editorial Committee of the Journal of Bangladesh Oral Cancer Society. Furthermore, he is a founding member of the Surgical Oncology Society Nepal, underscoring his leadership in shaping the future of oncology practice in the country.
