Prof. Dr. Prakash Nidhi Tiwari is a Senior Consultant and Head of the Pediatric Hematology Oncology Department at Nepal Cancer Hospital and Research Centre. He earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the Peoples’ Friendship University, Moscow, USSR in 1987, followed by a Post-Graduate Diploma in Child Health from Tribhuvan University Institute of Medicine in 1994, and later completed a three-year Fellowship in Pediatric Hematology Oncology at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, University of Southern California, in 2007. His professional journey began in 1988 with the Ministry of Health of Nepal as a Medical Officer, through which he served in various hospitals across the country, most notably Kanti Children’s Hospital. Over the years, he rose to become a Senior Consultant Pediatrician and Pediatric Hematologist Oncologist, ultimately serving as Head of the Pediatric Hematology Oncology Department at Kanti and later as Chief Consultant Pediatrician (11th Grade) until his retirement in 2018. During his tenure, he not only provided patient care but also played a vital role in establishing infrastructure, treatment protocols, and supportive care for children with cancers and blood disorders across Nepal. Following his retirement from the Ministry of Health, Dr. Tiwari joined Nepal Cancer Hospital and Research Centre as Senior Consultant and Head of Pediatric Hematology Oncology, and also serves as Professor of Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology Oncology at Karnali Academy of Health Sciences. His expertise is widely recognized, with specialist registrations in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology Oncology from the Nepal Medical Council. Over his career, he has contributed extensively to research, with numerous national and international publications focusing on childhood cancers, hematological disorders, leukemia management, asparaginase therapy, and the evolving landscape of pediatric oncology care in Nepal. Dr. Tiwari is an active member of several esteemed professional organizations, including the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), International Society of Pediatric Oncology (SIOP), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), American Society of Hematology (ASH), Nepal Medical Association (Life Member), Nepal Pediatric Society (Life Member), SAARC Federation of Oncology Nepal (Life Member), and the Nepalese Society of Medical Oncologists (Life Member). With a career spanning more than three decades, he continues to be a leading figure in pediatric oncology, dedicated to advancing treatment, education, and research for children with cancer and blood diseases in Nepal.
